🥦Don't get sick from the food, stay Safe, stay Full: Learn 4 Key pillars of Food Safety.
What is Food Safety?
Food safety means handling, preparing, and storing food in ways that prevent foodborne illness. It protects our meals from harmful germs like bacteria, viruses, and toxins that can make us sick.
👉 In short:
Food safety = protecting your plate from hidden dangers!
🛡 The Four Key Steps to Food Safety
1. 🧼 Clean – Wash Hands and Surfaces Often
Germs from raw foods, dirty surfaces, and even your hands can transfer to your meals. Washing reduces this risk.
✅ Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food.
✅ Clean utensils, cutting boards, and countertops regularly.
✅ Rinse fruits and vegetables under running water.
2. 🥩 Separate – Don’t Cross-Contaminate
Raw foods like meat and seafood carry bacteria that can transfer to ready-to-eat foods and cause illness. Separation helps stop this spread.
✅ Use different cutting boards for raw meat and veggies.
✅ Store raw meat in sealed containers on the bottom shelf of the fridge.
✅ Keep cooked and uncooked foods apart while shopping and storing.
3. 🔥 Cook – To the Right Temperature
Cooking food to the right temperature kills harmful bacteria that may be present even if the food looks done.
✅ Use a food thermometer to check internal temperatures.
✅ Example: Chicken should reach 75°C (165°F) to be safe.
✅ Reheat leftovers to at least 74°C (165°F).
🌡 Fun Reminder:
Your food thermometer is the kitchen’s superhero, always on duty to save the day!
4. ❄ Chill – Refrigerate Promptly
Bacteria grow rapidly between 5°C (41°F) and 60°C (140°F) this is called the “danger zone.” Chilling food slows bacteria growth and keeps it safe.
✅ Refrigerate leftovers and perishable foods within 2 hours.
✅ Store fridge at or below 4°C (40°F).
✅ Freeze food if you won’t use it within a few days.
🎉 Final Bite: Keep It Fun, Keep It Safe!
Food safety is a daily practice that keeps your family healthy. When you clean, separate, cook, and chill properly, you're not just cooking, you're caring.
With a little fun and a few smart steps, you’re on your way to safe, delicious meals every day. 😋
